ABOUT ME

I'm Mary Ellen and I'm a certified life coach focused on helping clients change their relationship with alcohol and change their lives for the better.

MY STORY

I know how difficult and overwhelming it can feel to change your drinking - I’ve been there myself. Like so many, my life seemed perfectly normal on the outside. It looked like I had it all together. Except that I was drinking too much and it worried me. What was once a way to have fun and overcome my shyness when I was younger, slowly became something that I felt I needed. As I got older and life inevitably got more challenging, I began relying on alcohol to help me cope with my stressful and overwhelming life.  It seemed I couldn’t go a night without having a few glasses (or ½ a bottle) of wine. I hated the way drinking made me feel, both physically and emotionally: I had little energy and motivation, a lot of anxiety, and low-grade depression. I was living with disappointment and shame and felt powerless to change. Sure, I managed to drink less for short periods of time, but not without a lot of struggle and will-power. I was worried about how often I was drinking. And even more worried that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t seem to cut back for very long. I just wanted to be able to drink or not drink without it feeling like such a big deal.

I woke up each morning really wanting to drink less that night (or not at all), and yet, by the end of the day, my very strong desire to drink won out. These two desires were at constant war, causing me a lot of internal struggle and shame.

Stressed out, overwhelmed, and feeling pretty low about myself, I felt totally stuck in my life and helpless. I was also tired - all the time…

I was so tired of…

  • Drinking more than I wanted and feeling like it was out of my control.

  • Asking myself “What’s wrong with you? Why can’t you drink normally?”

  • Wondering if I was an alcoholic.

  • Sleeping terribly and waking up either tired (at best) or hungover.

  • Starting my day defeated because I swore I wouldn’t drink the night before.

  • Drinking to cope with stress or overcome my shyness.

  • Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and no longer believing in myself.

  • Tired of it all and not knowing how to change.
